NHL Replay oversized lenticular cards are in motion

A Canadian company will be giving hockey collectors another attractive item to chase when it releases a set of oversized lenticular National Hockey League Replay cards Feb. 15 in Canada and March 15 in the United States. Produced by Quebec-based Softmotion, the 36-card Series I set are licensed by the NHL and NHLPA. Because the cards measure 3 by 4 inches, they do not fall under Upper Deck’s exclusive with the league or players association.

The NHL Replay Series I set will comprised of 30 action shots and six highlights, including rookie Alexander Ovechkin’s first NHL goal, Brian Leetch 1,000th point and Curtis Joseph’s 400th win. “Sidney Crosby is not in the first series, but we would love working with him in the future series,” Softmotion Director of Marketing and Sales Guy Brisson said. “Our license with the NHL and NHLPA is a multi-year license.”

He said Series II will feature a minimum of 72 action shots and highlights. Series II is slated in September and will feature highlights from the 2005-06 season.

Sold in one-card packs, the cards will be available at Canadian convenience stores. Collectors who live in the United States may purchase them at www.replaycards.com beginning in late March.

The company will also be producing 12- by 18-inch versions of the lenticular cards for $39.95 each. They will be available in early March. Meanwhile, 18- by 26-inch posters and custom size versions are also available.
